ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Elizabeth Suárez of the McAllen EDC addressed ANAPSA leaders at the Home2 Suites in McAllen during a panel discussion on economic progress in the Rio Grande Valley. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Muñoz Garden Center in Edinburg shared drought resistant gardening tips today. The center recommended watering lawns twice to thrice weekly in the early mornings or late evenings and suggested plants like bougainvillea, agaves, cacti, crown of thorns, and desert rose for a healthy garden. KRGV
- ➤ Wakefield BioChar offers local gardeners a way to boost soil health by mixing it into beds, pots, or lawns (about 10% of the soil) so that water and nutrients stay available; watering for the first week will help activate its benefits. Rio Grande Guardian
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Cameron and Hidalgo counties will test emergency alert systems on April 2 between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. (Hidalgo County residents, including those in Edinburg, may receive test notifications) as part of a statewide drill coordinated by the Texas Division of Emergency Management. KRGV
- ➤ Residents and business owners are frustrated by delays on the Alberta Road widening project near Shalom Drive because utility lines had to be relocated. The city expects the first layer of asphalt by the end of April 2026, but disruptions continue to affect traffic and local business activity. KRGV

- ➤ Texas Southmost College hosted its Historic Run and Half Marathon (centennial celebrations) on campus, where runners of all ages competed and 13-year-old Pavel Cruz won the 5K. The school will also host Play Day at the Zoo at Gladys Porter Zoo on Sunday, Apr. 19. Rio Grande Guardian
