- ➤ Progreso Police Department will launch a new autism safety registry next month to help officers better identify and support individuals on the spectrum. Families can register and share key details + officers will receive specialized training and sensory kits to improve emergency response. KRGV
- ➤ State Reps. Romero and Wu opposed a March 18 hearing that revisited the landmark Plyler v. Doe decision, arguing that questioning children’s public education rights can worsen uncertainty for local schools — they urged the committee to uphold constitutional protections. Rio Grande Guardian
- ➤ Starting April 1, new SNAP restrictions will bar purchases of sweetened beverages and candy to promote healthier choices after Gov. Abbott signed Senate Bill 379, and retailers will update systems + train staff to comply with the new rules. KSAT
