ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Authorities battled several fires in South Texas on Monday after a wildfire jumped the Rio Grande on Sunday night and burned 40 acres near Donna. On Tuesday, a fire near Santa Anna National Wildlife Refuge burned about 130 acres before it was stopped, and a junkyard grass fire in Pharr was contained by units from Pharr, McAllen, San Juan — and Edinburg took part.  KURV

CRIME NEWS

  • A driver from Edinburg was arrested after a rollover crash early Sunday morning in the 18-hundred block of North Sugar Road — 21-year-old Juan Carlos Contreras was charged with intoxication assault and racing and his bond was set at $200,000 — while a 22-year-old passenger was ejected from the vehicle and is expected to recover.  KURV

  • The Edinburg Economic Development Corporation (EDC) is accepting applications for an Assistant Executive Director to guide economic strategies and strengthen business ties in the city. Interested candidates must submit a resume, cover letter and references through the city employment portal while the position remains open.  The Edinburg Advocate

SPORTS NEWS

  • DRH Cattle Company will host its Youth Rodeo Saddle Series on May 10 at the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Posse Arena in Edinburg with contests in speed, roping, and bull riding for youth ages 0 to 18. Books open at 1 p.m. and events begin at 4 p.m. — a $100 series fee plus extra fees for rough stock events are required — while vendors and spectators are welcome.  The Edinburg Advocate
