- ➤ Edinburg secured a state grant to upgrade Memorial Park at 1212 E. Sprague St. The project will add dual-use tennis courts, a special all-inclusive basketball court, ADA-compliant sidewalks, benches, native landscaping and solar lighting to boost safety and accessibility while following Texas Parks and Wildlife guidelines. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Edinburg High School hosted a Navy Week outreach event where students used a virtual reality simulator to experience Navy pilot training and take part in fitness challenges. Navy officials & over 100 sailors visited the school, and more events will occur across the Rio Grande Valley. KRGV
- ➤ The Edinburg CISD board met at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27 to revisit its Community Advisory Committee and address personnel and legal matters in closed session, covering proposed hires for social workers and an academic counselor along with updates on visitor protocols and enrollment figures. - ➤ Teacher Jyssania González-Zamora from Norma Linda Trevino Elementary School was nominated for the national LifeChanger of the Year award recognizing her dedication to student success; winners will be announced in early 2026 (the nomination was submitted anonymously). The Edinburg Advocate
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Hidalgo and Pharr officials will start repaving McColl Road today from Dicker Road to Military Highway as part of a $600,000 joint project aimed at repairing flood damage and easing growing traffic. Hidalgo will supply materials while Pharr crews perform the work. KRGV
