🎓 Education
UTRGV has retained the Carnegie Community Engagement Classification, reaffirming its strong community ties in the Rio Grande Valley.
The university completed a rigorous yearlong review that began in spring 2025 and announced the designation on Monday (valid until 2032).
Edinburg CISD announced a districtwide cancer awareness event, Hope in All Colors, at Richard R.
Flores Stadium on Saturday, Jan. 31. The board also discussed forming a community advisory committee and boosting mental health services as enrollment fell by 1,025 since last year.
🏛️ Government
Hidalgo County announced over $1 million in HOME-ARP funding for local agencies aiding residents facing housing instability.
Eligible organizations must attend a mandatory technical workshop on Jan. 20 at 1:30 p.m. or Jan. 21 at 9 a.m. and submit applications by 3 p.m. on Feb. 13.
Hidalgo County property owners must pay their 2025 property taxes by Feb.
2 to avoid penalties or interest. Payments can be made in person at the Tax Assessor-Collector’s main office (2804 S. Business Hwy. 281) or at county sub-stations, online, or via Lone Star National Bank locations.
