About this event

This week’s Thursday Night Live highlights one of the most unique and fragile regions of the Rio Grande Valley in Growing Community Through Thorn forest Restoration with Mylen Arias on Thursday, November 11, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

From collecting seeds and growing native plants, Mylen will speak on how engaging comminutes in habitat restoration and connecting people with landscapes, is a large part of what makes forest restoration possible.

As Senior Manager of Community Resilience at American Forests, Mylen Arias leads community-driven effort to restore the Rio Grande Valley’s Thorn Forest, including organizing Rio Reforestation, the largest single-day tree planting event in the United States. Drawing from her background in environmental education, scientific research, partnership development, and community engagement, Mylen’s work centers on advancing awareness, appreciation, and restoration of the region’s Thornscrub landscapes.
